Brattleboro- Olive C. Reed, 74 of Melrose Street died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston with family at her side following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Reed was born in Bellows Falls on March 20, 1939 the daughter of Earl and Agnes (Bell) Chandler. She was raised and educated in Springfield, VT attending Springfield High School.

For approximately ten years she worked as activities director at Eden Park Nursing Home in Brattleboro, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also a volunteer at Hinsdale Elementary School for several years.

Mrs. Reed took great pride in her home and was a devoted homemaker who cherished time spent with her family.

She was a member of the American Legion Brattleboro Post #5 Auxiliary and sang with the Brattleboro Women's Choir.

Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed shopping, arts and crafts and vacationing in Cancun and Cozumel. She was known for her gracious hospitality and spirit of friendship.

On July 2, 1960 at First United Methodist Church in Brattleboro she was married to Gary P. Reed who predeceased her.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Olson of Hinsdale and Laurie Given of Brattleboro, Lisa Wood of Fort Worth, Texas who was like a daughter to her, fiancée and the love of her life Bruce Gauthier of Chesterfield, and one brother, Carl Chandler of Mass, and a sister, Alma Rounds of Brattleboro.

Additionally she leaves six grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Herbert Chandler and a sister Charlotte Olney.

Graveside committal services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. in Morningside Cemetery with Pastor Steve McClelland officiating. A reception will follow the services to be held at the American Legion on Linden Street.
